How Does the Derma Roller Work?
It works by stimulating the dermis to produce collagen or increasing absorption of active ingredients with the use of hundreds of very thin needles.
The Derma Roller is specifically designed to create small openings in the top layer of the skin which create pathways for product applied to the skin to absorb into the deeper layers of the skin. The pores then close up again after about an hour.
The various Derma Roller manufacturers claim their products give similar results to those of Laser, Chemical Peels and Dermabrasion treatments at a fraction of the cost; and without the trauma and soreness to the skin afterwards.
How To Use The Derma Roller
The Derma Roller is rolled over the scar or wrinkle area to be treated in the; vertical; horizontal;and both diagonal directions. It is advised to use a skin numbing gel such as Topicain for the more vigorous treatments, as this is not entirely without discomfort. However, when applying a lighter treatment using less pressure, a numbing gel is not needed, and excellent results are still obtained. A tingling sensation is experienced, leaving a little redness on the skin which resembles mild sunburn that lasts for an hour or so. This procedure is applied 5 times a week for best results
**Hygiene is vitally important, the environment must be sterilized with disinfectant and anti-bacterial cream must be applied to the skin afterward; eliminating the risk of infection.
How Long Before You See Results
The rate at which you will get results depends on what condition you are treating and how extensively your skin needs to remodel. This process of skin re-modeling can continue for literally months after each Derma Roller treatment, but visibly noticeable changes can be seen within a week! Your skin naturally renews itself every 40 days, so with a little stimulation, changes can be dramatic and fast. To maximize the results, it is best to use vitamin rich creams with anti-oxidents and ingredients that strengthen collagen, promote healing and calms the skin – the Derma Roller manufacturers usually supply these as well.

Our rating is based upon our assessment of the Scientia Derma Roller
It is a highly cost effective alternative to laser and dermabrasion treatments. The results are not quite on par with these. However, the substantially lower cost, less pain and less trauma to the skin including the risk free guarantee makes this a solution to consider, when weighed against the slightly better results from laser.
The results and costs of the Derma Roller are comparable to those of the home applied chemical skin peels such as the Zenmed Scar Treatment Kit, but, without the risk of excessive skin irritation
Each Derma Roller lasts for 3-months and a 6-month treatment is recommended for maximum results.
Cost of complete 6-month treatment package: $182.00 USD / €128.00 Euro
which includes; 2 x Derma Rollers, creams and anti-bacterial wipes.
